Max Plank’s quantum idea

Max Plank’s quantum idea: Max Planck was born in Kiel, Germany on April 23, 1858, Planck received degrees from the University of Berlin and the University of Munich. After spending four years as an associate professor of theoretical physics at the University of Kiel, Planck went to the University of Berlin where he became a full professor in 1892.

Planck’s passion was thermodynamics. While researching black-body radiation, he ran into the same problem as other scientists. Classical physics could not explain the results he was looking for. In 1900, German theoretical physicist Max Planck revolutionize physics by discovering that energy does not flow uniformly, but is instead releases in discrete packets. Planck created an equation to predict this phenomenon, and his discovery ended what many now refer to as “classical physics” in favor of the study of quantum physics.

In 1900, 42-year-old Planck discovered an equation that explained the results of these tests: E = Nhf, E = energy, N = integer, h = constant, with f = frequency. In determining this equation, Planck came up with the constant (h), now known as the “Planck constant”.

Family

Then several years later, in July 1909, Mary Planck died. In March 1911 Planck married his second wife, Marga von Hossein, and in December their fifth child, Hermann, was born.

During World War I, Planck’s second son, Erwin, takens prisoner by the French in 1914, and his oldest son, Carl, executes in action. Grete died in 1917 while giving birth to her first child. Her sister died, in the same way, two years later after she married the widower of the Great. Both granddaughters survive and were name after their mothers.

Life After Discovery

Previously, the magnitude of Planck’s discovery is not fully understand. It was not until Einstein and many others used quantum theory to make further progress in physics.

By 1918, the scientific community was well aware of the importance of Planck’s work and was award the Nobel Prize in Physics.

Yet he continued to do research and contributed to the advancement of physics, but nothing compared to his 1900 findings.

Quantum Theory

Planck’s quantum theory states that the energy that each quantum possesses is equal to the frequency of radiation multiplied by the universal constant. His discoveries did not invalidate the earlier theory that radiation travels in waves. Like when a new discovery that breaks everything establish (see continental drift theory) is initially reject by the scientific community. Therefore, the discoveries made by Planck were later verified by studies by other scientists.

Thanks to these discoveries, physics began to operate in a completely different and more developed field. This field of physics calls as quantum mechanics and it is it that forms the basis of all the necessary knowledge to study nuclear energy.

Recognized the importance of Albert Einstein’s ideas about electromagnetic radiation in 1905. The two collaborated during their careers as physicists who worked to revolutionize that world.

Plank’s Death

He died on October 4, 1948, at the age of 90.
